Locking Through Misc information

A 14 Tow at Lockport Lock on the Illinois
These guys stir up debris, so we need to stay back.
Including the Cheboygan MI lock (on the Cheboygan River), we have now locked through five locks.

The Cheboygan Lock (our home lock?) is a nasty lock for us, we have even popped a Boat Bumper there once.  It is narrow and the down river exit has a swift water spill from a paper factory that pushes you against rocks if you are not prepared.

The next lock was the Chicago at Lk Michigan Lock. This was a sneezy two foot drop.

Vicki, working hard maintaining the dock lines in the lock.
The next three locks were on the Illinois River.  Designed for Tows and Barges.  The Lockport Lock was immense and was a bit intimidating.

Floating Bollard, Dock line around the upright on bollard and attached to the amidship cleat
The lock typically have only floating Bollards (the tie-up to the boat and raises up and down with the water level).
Rafting off in the Lock

If several boats transit the lock at the same time and exceed four boats, the remaining boats need to 'raft off' from the secured boats.  We rafted off two times and toed up once and had another boat rafted off to us.

The moment we waited for.   The wait times for entry into a lock can destroy the spirit of the day.  We waited over 4.5 hours at the Lockport Lock.
