Vero Beach to Eau Gallie to Titusville to Daytona Beach

Daisy Chill'in on her way to Daytona
Narrow part of the AICW
(Atlantic InterCoastal Waterway)

As we continue to push north we went through Mosquito Bay, very shallow and narrow, but very nice.  We then made it to Vero Beach for a week.

The Vero Beach City Marina is located in a nice protected harbor.  There are parks near by.  But there is a 4 acre dog park too.  What a great place for Daisy to get her exercise, she went there every day.  Vero Beach is a superb place, great homes that are nicely landscaped, and many trees have the southern moss growing from the tree limbs.  The city has a transportation system that stops at the city marina.  On 10 minutes after the hour the bus takes you to a strip mall area.  There is a Publix store there, among other stores, for provisioning our food supplies.  At 45 after the hour the bus takes you to any one of their superb beach areas.  What a great asset for visitors.  Also nearby within walking distance are some restaurants.  There are mangrove areas that Daisy and I explored via the dingy.  Vicki and I also took a dingy ride to see the other side of the AICW.  Vicki and I went to the beach several times even had breakfast there.  The weather was hot and ..... WINDY.  The red flags were out, thus, no swimming.  There were purple flags out too, indicating that marine life was in the area too (Portuguese Man'O War  YIKES!).

View through the masts

On our last day at Vero, the replica ships Pina and the Nina sailed in, and many visitors showed up on the docks.  We have seen the vessels several times before (we saw the Pinta stuck in Peoria coming down the Illinois River, and near Grafton on the Mississippi), thus we did not board them.  They sure draw a crowd.

.......'O GALLEY"..... Harbor.

We wanted to put some miles under Blue Willow, thus the trip to Eau Gallie (Melbourne Fl), and Titusville were very uneventful.  I got my butt chewed out on the radio for not pronouncing Eau Gallie correct.

We could see the NASA complex from the AICW near Titusville What a viewing location to watch the shuttle (of old) or rocket launches.

What is not to like about Daytona?  As a first timer, we loved it.  We stayed in Daytona Beach.
It WAS 'Bike Week' in Daytona
I even purchased a 'Bike Week' Tee shirt

I wanted to ride a bike (bicycle) on the sand there, it has always been something that I wanted to do.  The beach scene was great.  The size of the beach is impressive, as I walked for what seemed several miles.

Blue Willow in Daytona

Love that reflection.

While visiting Daytona it was bike (not bicycle) week.  That means 1,000's of bikes....the type being LOUD through the gears type of bikes.  There were some amazing custom bikes.  It was fun to see them in their groups and having a great time.  For me, I outgrew the love of excessive unnecessary NOISE.  After hours and hours of the noise it became a nuisance.  The locals refer to it as crazy week.  My father lived nearby for a few years during the later part of his life.  He actually liked bike week (albeit from a distance).

Sorry for not blogging recently....   Thanks for peeking in on our little blog.  Peace and Calm to all.
